Did you know that synthetic oils are used in all jet engines and space craft? Only synthetic oils can survive and provide the exceptional lubrication required at the extreme high and low temperature conditions found in these applications.

Why choose Amsoil's lubricants Anyway?

  1. Dramatically reduced wear compared to petroleum oils and even other brands of synthetic oils-engines and other components last far longer! See the link labeled "API Comparative Motor Oil Testing"

  2. Performance at temperature extremes. In arctic conditions the very low pour point (to -70F) means easy starting and immediate flow of oil to critical engine parts. At scorching desert temperatures, the very high thermal and oxidative stability of Amsoil synthetic oils are still providing outstanding lubrication-even under the most severe use.

  3. Amsoil synthetic lubricants cut friction and drag so effectively that fuel economy is improved, often as much as 4 to 9 percent or more over petroleum fluids.

  4. Cool running. Amsoil synthetic lubricants dissipate heat far faster than petroleum oils. Can cut temperatures 20 to 50 degrees. This feature is especially beneficial for turbo-charged engines, air cooled motorcycles and hard working automatic transmissions.

  5. Clean running. Amsoil synthetic oils contain no paraffin or other impurities that promote the creation of sludge and varnish deposits. Plus powerful detergent/dispersant additives keep new engines clean and over a period of miles will clean and remove deposits in older engines for optimum cleanliness and performance.

  6. Convenience - The only warranted 25,000/35,000 drain intervals in the industry! That's right, warranted! No other brand of oil, petroleum or synthetic offers a warranted extended drain interval! Amsoil synthetic lubricants have an operating life up to 10 times longer then a petroleum product, cutting downtime and improving equipment availability.

  7. More enviromentally friendly, Improved fuel economy, lower emissions and 3 to 5 times less waste oil and oil fiters to deal with and dispose of!

So whats the downside?

Synthetic oils cost more-or do they?

Let's do a comparison on a typical pickup application. Say a 3/4 ton Dodge Cummins diesel powered pickup used for delivery by a machine shop that manufactures and then delivers compressor parts to it's customers, (this is actual data from one of my fleet accounts! See Corpus Christi Coating and Machine at the satisfied customer link.) This fleet of trucks drive about 35% in town and 65% on the highway.

Before this company's conversion to Amsoil synthetic they used Texaco Ursa 15 W/40 in their fleet. They paid an average of about $7.00 per gallon for the Texaco oil and changed it every 5000 miles. Fleet fuel economy averaged about 19 mpg. Each truck averaged about 5000 to 6000 miles per month.

Before their use of Amsoil they changed the oil about once a month. Three gallons of Texaco oil and a Baldwin filter (about $35.00) Plus labor to install the oil and filter (about $20.00) Plus two hours of down time for the truck to take it to get the oil changed (about $150.00) Plus two hours pay to an employee to take the truck to get the oil changed (about $22.00) Grand total: $227.00 per month!

After this company changed their trucks to Amsoil 15 W/40 heavy duty diesel motor oil, used oil analysis showed that they could easily operate 25,000 miles on a single oil change with a 12,500 mile change of the Amsoil high efficiency oil filter. Or in other words 6 months on the oil and 3 months on the filter!

So we have three gallons of Amsoil 15W/40 and two Amsoil oil filters and two extra quarts of Amsoil 15W/40 for top up when the filter is changed at 12,500 miles, (about $80.00) Plus labor to install the oil and filter (About $20.00) Plus labor to change just the filter at 12,500 miles (about $15.00) plus a total of three hours down time on the truck for both the oil change and the mid drain filter change (about $225.00) plus three hours labor for an employee to take the vehicle for oil and filter changes (about $33.00) Grand total average for six months and 25,000 miles: $31.00 per month!

Which would you prefer? $227.00 per month or $31.00 per month?!

But there's more! Fuel economy rose by 11.2% to almost 21.5 MPG. in combined city/highway driving. A savings averaging $367.00 per year in fuel costs per vehicle! (remember, these guys drive about 60,000 miles per year per truck).

This is still not the end of the story! After a few months this company changed all of the manual transmissions and differentials to Amsoil Series 2000 75W/90 gear lube. Fuel economy on the highway has risen to almost 25 MPG and they have not had a single mechanical drive train or turbo charger failure on any truck; even those that have more than half a million miles of use on them!

With the cost of staying in business today you can't afford not to use Amsoil synthetic lubricants in your equipment!

What about after market oil additives?

Like Z-max, Dura Lube, Prolong ,Slick 50, STP etc.?
Can't these prop up a weak oil?

Well actually no. These types of additives are basically worthless and can even be detrimental to your engine.

A couple of years ago Amsoil treated some popular motor oils including our own 10W/30 Turbo grade synthetic motor oil with Prolong and Z-Max and in all cases performance on the ASTM D-4172 four ball wear test deteriorated!

What are these products anyway?

On the whole there are two basic kinds; those that contain P.T.F.E resins (Poly-tetra-floro-ethylene), commonly called teflon, such as Slick 50 and chlorinated treatments like Dura Lube. In either one the supposed active ingredient is mixed with a carrier such as mineral oil.

While P.T.F.E resins do have some legitimate industrial uses they are worthless in an engine because it takes very high temperatures for these products to bond to metal, often more than 600F. Temperatures your engine will never see short of a serious problem! This leaves these colloidal particles loose in your oil to partially plug the pick-up screen, the filter and to generally reduce oil flow in your engine.

Chlorinated additives use chlorine, an extreme pressure agent that works well in some extreme pressure lubricants such as gearlubes. Chlorine additives definitely reduce friction (ever get Clorox bleach on your fingers-it's very slick) but when used in internal combustion engine oil it combines with combustion byproducts and condensate to produce hydrochloric acid, an extreme corrosive! This quickly overwhelms the oil's acid fighting ability and can cause permanent damage to bearings and other engine components.

Additionally, some of these products will contain moly (colloidal molydinum disulfide) an extreme pressure additive that works well in some lubricants such as extreme pressure grease. However, moly is in the form of solid particles and in an engine acts as an abrasive. Other products will combine some or all of the above ingredients with some zinc or phosphorus, throwing off the chemical balance of the oil's existing additive package.

These products do nothing to help, and in the case of Amsoil motor oils, you are already buying a product with the most advanced long drain anti-wear chemistry available. All you will do by adding someone else's product is alter our advanced chemistry and void the Amsoil warranty.

Over the last five years the Federal Trade Commission has filed and almost endless string of charges against companies marketing these types of products, most recently Z-Zax, causing most to have to change their advertising claims and others to go out of business entirely.

"Our company makes the best lubricants in the world, period, and challenges anyone or any company to prove us wrong! That won't happen because our competitors know it's true."

AJ. Amatuzio, President and CEO of Amsoil Inc.

What about other brands of synthetics?

OK, lets talk about all the "also rans" and "johnny come lately's":

Amsoil introduced the first API rated (American petroleum Institute) 100% synthetic motor oil in 1972. For a number a years it was the only synthetic motor oil, period! Then about five years later, Mobil introduced Mobil 1. Until ten or fifteen years ago most of the other oil makers didn't even offer a synthetic motor oil!

Instead, the petroleum oil makers spent all those years talking down synthetic motor oil. "It's no better than petroleum", "It causes leaks", "It will ruin your engine", "It will void your warranty", "It can't really go for extended drains" and on and on and on-for years!

This talk was all about their profit margin. Why talk about how good synthetic oils are when you don't have any to sell!

In the last ten years or so, industry demand has forced all the same companies that made petroleum oil to come out with their own synthetic oils and suddenly synthetic motor oil is not just acceptable but down right super and doesn't have any of those problems they were talking about before!

But you notice that none of the other companies are saying anything about extending drain intervals, even in the face of auto manufacturer's moving to longer and longer suggested drains. They are all still yak yakking about changing oil every 3000 miles. WHY?

Once again it's more about profit than what's good for the consumer and the environment. In Europe, Mobil 1 is rated for an extended drain (in Europe drain intervals are generally much longer, even with petroleum oils) In the U.S., though, Mobil keeps its mouth shut about this fact.

Marc Graham, president of Jiffy Lube International (owned by Pennzoil/Quaker State) admitted in a recent interview in Lubricants World magazine that if they could convince their customers to change oil just one hundred miles sooner it would create 20 million dollars in additional revenue per year and if they would do just one more oil change per year it would mean almost 300 million extra dollars per year in oil changes plus another 140 million dollars in extra services sold during the oil change! And that's just one company!

The admitted bottom line is profit. The more times you change oil in your vehicle per year the more money the oil companies make.

Okay, so the other synthetic oils are generally not designed for extended drains. But they protect just as well as Amsoil-right?

Wrong! Because of a lawsuit between Mobil and Castrol a few years back most of the synthetic oil producers have stopped using the more expensive and far more hi-performance group four synthetic base stocks in their formulations, opting instead to use group three base stocks, really just a very refined petroleum oil! Read the What are synthetic lubricants link for a more detailed explanation of this.

A look at the API Comparative Motor Oil Testing link will be an eye opener for you! Amsoil beats the competition in every category:

Amsoil beats them all! Better than
Castrol, Pennzoil, Havoline, Valvoline,
Quaker State, Super Flow, Shell, etc.
As for Mobil and their "nothing outperforms Mobil 1" advertising statements, Mobil 1 is a good oil but is out performed by Amsoil synthetic motor oil by a wide margin in every way you can test a motor oil-in any viscosity category!

Amsoil motor oils have the recommended drain intervals of 35,000 miles or one year for the Series 2000 0W/30 and 25,000 miles or one year for our standard long drain synthetic oils 5W/30 and 10W/30, written and warranted right on the bottle!

No one else does that!

Extreme efficiency oil and air filters.

Amsoil also manufactures a line of extremely efficient oil and air filters.

Standard oil filters are made to work within the flow characteristics of petroleum motor oil. Because of this, the industry average for oil filter efficiency is about 40 microns. Some brands being somewhat better and some being somewhat worse.

Since a synthetic oil flows more readily at any temperature a filter designed for use with synthetic oil can have the filter media packed more densely without starving the engine for oil.

Amsoil Super duty spin on oil filters use an advanced media design with up to 25% better efficiency (size of particles it can trap) and up to 300% higher capacity! (amount of contaminants it can hold before plugging) See the Micron wars and the history of oil filterslink.

Amsoil Super duty oil filters stop more dirt, hold more dirt and last longer than other filters do!

Amsoil Super Duty oil filters are designed for 6 months or
12,500 miles of use. Whichever comes first!

The Amsoil Flowzair air filter is a proprietary design offering a two stage filtration made from advanced Linked polyethylene closed cell foam. The second stage being denser than the first and both stages being treated with Amsoil Super-Tack filter oil.

These incredible air filters offer extremely high particle efficiency while flowing more air than other high flow brands such as K&N. See the Amsoil Flowzair air filters link.

Reusable Design!

The Amsoil Flowzair air filters have a
recommended service interval of 1 year
or 25,000 miles! Just clean, re-oil with
Amsoil Super Tack filter oil and you're set
for another year or 25,000 miles!
